I've always considered myself a socialite. I love dressing up, going out, and having a good time... all while dragging my camera around to ensure I savour every moment. I'm sure a lot of you remember my Facebook albums from back in the day. Anyone who wasn't there could pretty much relive my night through them without missing a beat. Well I'm glad to say that nothing has changed, other than that fact that I am now sharing these moments with the public so that even more of you can experience them with me!
The first "Fashion File" if you will is the oh so luxurious Packwood Grand event in Calgary. As seen in the citation from Packwood Grand's website this event is nothing short of class. It was a day for all of the city's most polished and professional individuals to put on their best frocks, fascinators, and tailcoats for a night of innocent horse race betting, champagne and networking. I mean, when else do we have an excuse to dress this glam and wear fancy feathers on our heads? I jumped on the opportunity and dolled right up. I felt like we were all right out of a movie.
I have a thing for little black dresses. It's a bad habit really. I feel like they look so sexy and put together, so I always tend to fall back on them. I tried to change it up a little for this event and went with a high wasted skirt and mid drift one-shoulder shirt with an asymmetric neckline. The shirt also had large exaggerated ruffles all around the top trim which I felt was perfect as it added a pop to the sleek attire (and because ruffles are dominating this summer who are we kidding?). I paired it with a red fascinator and bright red lips to match. The fascinator also had black feathers, which helped tie it into the overall outfit perfectly. I have to admit that while a large majority of the woman wore pin in fascinators, there were also a large number that wore huge hats topped with decor. I think it is safe to say that when selecting the perfect headpiece for a day at the tracks there is no need to hold back because anything goes!
Now let's talk about the races! The horses races were really fun to watch. The horse I felt connected to the most while they were warming up came in last place almost every time, so I'm glad that I forgot to bet right before it started. I kept cheering for my horse though. We all need a little encouragement sometimes right? Packwood Grand also ensured the entertainment never stopped and that we were not parched or hungry. There was a luncheon provided, numerous bars to ensure there was never a long wait, boutiques to shop, a DJ, and a dance floor! They also had party busses to National before and after the event, but I chose to stay and play my luck inside the Century Downs Casino at the tracks instead!
I was able to attend this event due to a very courteous offer from Packwood Grand, so I want to send a special thank you to them and the entire team that was in charge of arranging the exclusive media/partner invites. You guys rock and put on such a wonderful show! Thank you!
