I’m back with some very exciting news and new photos to share! Thanks to the referral of a very talented photographer that I have been working closely with, I was contacted by Amanda Cutting - Artistic Director of the Artists’ Collective Theater.
Amanda shared that she was looking for an artist to provide hair and makeup for the callbacks of an independent film she was producing here in Calgary, and she wanted to know if I would be interested in taking on the role. Naturally I was flattered that she asked, and that she was so confident in my abilities. I mean, what a cool opportunity right? Who wouldn’t be excited about being a part of and supporting film and arts in Calgary?
Over the weekend I was put to the test prepping numerous people on set… which wasn’t at a nice lit studio station like some of you may think. I applied makeup in an office, a home, outside in the frigid cold of a dark alley at night, and even in the back of a car at the crack of dawn. I set up wherever we were shooting and went to work. It was definitely a different experience than the salon environment that I am used to.
Between all the chaos there was some downtime though. The best part about being a makeup artist is that they need you to hang around all day for things like scene changes and touchups, so you get to watch the crew in action and you get a glimpse of the film before it’s even released!
For those of you wondering, the name of the film is “Nostalgia” and it's about a mothers sacrifice for her daughter to have what she needs to grow up. I don’t want to share too much more yet, but Amanda was kind enough to allow me take a few behind the scenes photos to share with you on my blog. Stay tuned for these scenes and think of me when you see them. Make sure to look for my name in the Imbd credits too!
I have a few other photos under TV Makeup in my Portfolio as well. Feel free to check them out!
